Col. (MD) Associate Professor Alice Elena Munteanu serves as Head of the Cardiovascular Diseases Centre at the “Carol Davila” Central Military University Emergency Hospital (Spitalul Universitar de Urgență Militar Central „Carol Davila”) in Bucharest. With a career spanning over 25 years in medicine – 24 of which in internal medicine and, from 2012 onward, in cardiology, Col. (MD) Munteanu Alice has been devoted to her patients from the very outset of her professional life. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova, holds a Doctorate in Medical Sciences, serves as an investigator in clinical trials, and has been a mentor to generations of medical students and resident physicians.
Her foundational training as an internist has consistently informed Col. (MD) Munteanu Alice’s approach to patient care, which has always been guided by an integrated, holistic management strategy. This multidisciplinary perspective has been conveyed to successive generations of physicians both through her academic role at the Faculty of Medicine of Titu Maiorescu University in Bucharest, where she has served as Assistant Professor since 2014 and as Associate Professor since 2021, and through her role as a lecturer at specialist conferences and continuing medical education events attended by cardiologists, internists, and general practitioners.
As Head of the Cardiovascular Diseases Centre at the “Carol Davila” Central Military University Emergency Hospital, Col. (MD) Munteanu Alice leads a large, multidisciplinary team comprising clinical cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, cardiac and vascular surgeons, and anesthesiologists, working alongside nursing and support staff to deliver comprehensive care to patients with cardiovascular pathology. From the outset of her tenure at this tertiary cardiology center, she has placed particular emphasis on individualized patient treatment, guided by current international clinical guidelines and grounded in modern techniques. She has been instrumental in implementing the Heart Team concept at the institutional level, a multidisciplinary framework in which every therapeutic decision is carefully weighed and jointly reached.
In the realm of scientific research, Col. (MD) Munteanu Alice has demonstrated a sustained commitment to advancing medical knowledge. Her contributions include her 2022 doctoral thesis as well as numerous publications in prestigious international medical journals and specialist monographs, among them “Clinical Neuroradiology” (Neuro-cardiologia clinică), which was awarded the University Book Fair Diploma by the Central Library of the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in November 2025. A member of several distinguished medical societies, including the Romanian Society of Cardiology, the European Society of Cardiology, and the European Society of Hypertension, Col. (MD) Munteanu Alice actively contributes to the advancement of Romanian cardiology through participation in research working groups, with a particular focus on hypertension in women and ischemic heart disease.
Throughout her career, Col. (MD) Munteanu Alice has also placed considerable importance on communicating accurate, evidence-based medical information to the general public. She has organized science outreach initiatives and arterial hypertension screening events on the occasion of World Hypertension Day, held annually at the Integrated Outpatient Clinic of the “Carol Davila” Central Military University Emergency Hospital in Bucharest, and has made numerous appearances on radio and television programs. She has equally engaged in interdisciplinary dialogue with specialists from related medical and non-medical fields, entrepreneurs, and public authorities, with the aim of improving the quality of healthcare in Romania. In this capacity, she has been a featured speaker at high-profile events such as NextMed – “Innovation Is an Investment, Not a Cost” , and the National Conference “Smart Romania” (Conferința Națională „România Inteligentă”).
Beyond her daily work at the patient’s bedside, Col. (MD) Munteanu Alice is a serving officer of the Romanian Army, whose dedication to her country has been recognized with a number of military distinctions: the Honorary Sign “In Service of the Fatherland” for officers, awarded for 15 years of meritorious activity and professional development, in July 2017; the Honorary Emblem of Military Medicine, in August 2019; and the Honorary Emblem of the Land Forces, conferred by the Chief of Staff of the Land Forces, in April 2026.
