The year 2025, with its hydrological and economic challenges, demonstrated the importance of this approach. Hidroelectrica is the leader in electricity generation and the main provider of technological services required by the National Energy System, being a vital company in a strategic sector with direct implications for national security.
Established in the year 2000, Hidroelectrica has asserted itself in the Romanian energy market through its experience, credibility, and flexibility. Today, it is the main producer and supplier of electricity in Romania, as well as the primary provider of system technological services.
With an output of over 17 TWh in an average hydrological year, generated in branches strategically located throughout the country, Hidroelectrica supplies approximately 30% of Romania’s total electricity production, depending on the year’s hydrological conditions. At the same time, over the past 10 years, the company has provided on average:
- about 70% of the secondary frequency regulation service;
- about 84% of the fast tertiary reserve service;
- 100% of the reactive power supply service, injected or absorbed from the grid, within the secondary voltage regulation band, as required by the National Energy
Through its strong organizational culture, Hidroelectrica aims to strengthen its position as the energy market leader in Romania by optimally developing its generation capacities and becoming a key player in the regional energy market.
The company is currently managed under a dualist system, by a Directorate operating under the supervision of a Supervisory Board.
As of 31.12.2024, the Hidroelectrica Group recorded a net profit of 4,128 million lei, based on a turnover of approximately 9,123 million lei.
In 2024, Hidroelectrica paid dividends totaling 6,293 million lei to its shareholders.
Also in 2024, gross production of 14.224 TWh was achieved in 188 hydro and micro-hydropower plants, including five pumping stations, with a total installed hydroelectric generation capacity of approximately 6,480 GWh, as well as in 36 wind turbines,
with a total installed capacity of 108 MW.
