Mihai Fugarevici,
CEO STADA Romania
In the pharmaceutical industry, outstanding results do not happen by chance. They are built by people who have the courage to look beyond the present and create solutions for the future—people who see opportunities where most see insurmountable crises.
Mihai Fugarevici belongs to this category of leaders who successfully combine professional rigor, strategic thinking, and the ability to inspire teams to achieve excellence.
With more than two decades of industry experience, he has become one of the most respected leaders in Romania’s pharmaceutical sector, recognized for his ability to transform ambitious objectives into concrete results.
A graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Mihai Fugarevici built his career on a profound understanding of patients’ needs and of the essential role the pharmaceutical industry plays in public health. Just three years after completing his studies, he was already serving as National Sales Manager at A&G Med Trading, and in 2007 he became Business Unit Director, Hospital Network, at A&D Pharma (now the Dr. Max Group). His management expertise was further strengthened through leadership positions at Teva Pharmaceuticals and Angelini before he assumed the leadership of STADA Romania.
Since 2017, as General Manager of STADA Romania, Mihai Fugarevici has overseen one of the most remarkable periods of growth in the company’s history on the local market. Under his leadership, STADA Romania increased its turnover sixfold in just seven years—a performance that reflects not only the company’s commercial success, but also a coherent development strategy built on investment, innovation, and trust in people.
Those who work alongside him describe him as a demanding yet balanced leader, strongly results-oriented while never losing sight of the importance of collaboration and the professional development of his teams. For Mihai Fugarevici, as for any leader who understands the true nature of his mission, an organization’s success is not the result of individual effort but of a culture grounded in responsibility, professionalism, and mutual respect. Guided by this management philosophy, he has helped transform STADA Romania into a benchmark for performance.
A defining example of his strategic vision for corporate development was the STADA Group’s decision to undertake one of the most significant industrial investments in its history in Romania. In 2021, thanks to the achievements of the local team and the credibility built within the international organization, Fugarevici succeeded in placing Romania on the map of major strategic projects through the development of a greenfield investment exceeding €60 million in Turda, Cluj County.
This investment, which involves the construction of a state- of-the-art manufacturing facility, reflects the confidence placed in the local management team and confirms that Romania has the potential to become a significant player in the European pharmaceutical industry. Located in the Arieș Industrial Park, the new production unit is considered the first pharmaceutical factory built from the ground up in Romania by an international pharmaceutical company.

Designed to meet the highest technological standards, the facility features 12 production lines for solid oral dosage forms—tablets and capsules—and an annual production capacity of up to 160 million boxes of medicines. With a built area of approximately 30,000 square meters and situated on a 100,000-square-meter site, the facility provides the foundation for continued growth and rapid expansion in response to the demands of the European market.
For Mihai Fugarevici, this investment also represents a response to one of the most critical challenges of recent years: the security of medicine supply. The pandemic, geopolitical tensions, and vulnerabilities in global supply chains have demonstrated the importance of having robust regional manufacturing capabilities. In this vision, Romania should not be merely a consumer market, but a center of pharmaceutical production and expertise.
His leadership is also distinguished by the ability to look beyond financial indicators. In an economic and legislative environment that is often challenging for the pharmaceutical industry, Mihai Fugarevici consistently speaks about the responsibility of companies to contribute to the development of the healthcare system and to improve patient access to modern and safe treatments. For him, economic performance and social impact are not separate objectives, but components of the same mission.
The same philosophy is reflected in STADA’s global strategy. With nearly 130 years of history, operations in approximately 120 markets, and more than 12,000 employees worldwide, STADA has established itself as a trusted partner for patients and healthcare professionals through its portfolio of generic medicines, biosimilars, and consumer healthcare products.
Behind all these achievements lies a simple principle that Mihai Fugarevici has consistently championed: major transformations are possible when vision is matched by perseverance, and success is built through people. Through the projects he has led and the impact he continues to have on the industry, he is helping redefine Romania’s role on the European pharmaceutical manufacturing map and demonstrating that authentic leadership means creating opportunities for future generations.
